  1. 31 July 2026 · corrected by Emir Baycan

Corrected four studies that could not be verified, each attributed to a real expert, along with several altered financial figures in the case-study section.

    What the page claimed

Article described an entire marketplace-liquidity study attributed to David Skok (whose real, documented work is specifically about SaaS metrics, not marketplaces), an entire 2022 MIT Sloan Management Review study attributed to Geoffrey Parker, a co-authored 'State of the Cloud' report attributed to Tomasz Tunguz (the real report is Bessemer's independent publication), and an entire 2021 follow-up study attributed to Thomas Eisenmann, none of which could be located. In the case-study section, it overstated Shopify's stock return by roughly a factor of 10, understated Duolingo's real monthly active user count and overstated its IPO valuation by roughly $1.7 billion, cited a GMV figure for Toptal that could not be verified, and overstated Substack's total writer payouts by roughly $40-50 million.

    What was corrected

Rewrote the entire research section, preserving the real researchers, frameworks, and organizations (David Skok's SaaS Metrics 2.0, Geoffrey Parker's Platform Revolution research, Tomasz Tunguz's Rule of 40 analysis, Bessemer's real State of the Cloud report, and Thomas Eisenmann's real marketplace research) while removing all studies that could not be verified. In the case-study section, corrected Shopify's real stock return multiple, Duolingo's real MAU count and IPO valuation, Toptal's revenue figure, and Substack's real writer payout total.

Why: Verified against David Skok's actual published work, Geoffrey Parker's actual publication record, Bessemer Venture Partners' actual State of the Cloud reports, Thomas Eisenmann's actual publication record, and the actual public financial histories of Shopify, Duolingo, Toptal, and Substack.
