   What the page claimed

   Article cited a real 2022 Guvenen, Kaplan, Song, and Weidner paper under an incorrect title ('Lifetime Incomes' rather than the actual 'Lifetime Earnings') and overstated its conclusion beyond what the paper actually measures. It stated that Melinda French Gates joined Microsoft in 1986 (her actual graduation year) at 'below-market pay,' a detail that could not be verified in her documented account, which instead describes an IBM manager advising her toward Microsoft's offer for its career upside. It also attributed a specific inbound-recruiter statistic to Reid Hoffman's LinkedIn research and a specific 'visibility wage premium' finding to economist Daron Acemoglu, neither of which could be verified against their actual published work.

   Corrected the paper's real title and softened its conclusion to match what the research actually measures, corrected Melinda French Gates's Microsoft joining date to 1987 and replaced the unverifiable pay detail with the real, widely reported story about career-upside advice, replaced the Reid Hoffman statistic with an accurately hedged description of his actual argument, and replaced the Daron Acemoglu claim with a general, accurately hedged statement about information asymmetry in labor markets.
